After a miserable time at a Riding Club camp, where the degree of separation between those who compete and those who didn't became increasingly difficult, the idea for Equestrian Camps South West was born.
The ethos was simple - supporting people and their horses who may not compete, but might wish to one day, whilst enjoying a few days away. Several months later the first camp took place!
Interest from people who were so pleased to have a chance to go to camp, without the need to be members of a riding club, was overwhelming and places filled very quickly - often with long waiting lists. From the start, a very strict policy was laid down. No judgement allowed. No talking about people or their horses. No comments made at the side of the ring. Everyone is encouraged to support each other.
Our camps are suitable for all, no matter what stage horse and rider have reached. Flatwork only to three foot plus, it’s your choice. A lot of time and effort goes into putting groups together. What can you expect at camp? Three hours of instruction a day, split into two sessions, given by people who understand what level you’re at with your horse and will help you to improve in a way that you want to without pushing you to do anything - but at the same time, edging you out of your comfort zone steadily. Stabling for your horses, free bedding and the best haylage! Use of fantastic equestrian facilities to play, practice and enjoy with your instructors. Camping in a lovely grassy field with no set pitches and with like-minded people - only a stone’s throw from where your horses are, so you can go and see them whenever you want to. First is Pizza night, then English Breakfast every day, open buffet at lunch time and huge amounts of homemade lasagna and cottage pie. No washing up, no cooking to do. We look after it all! We also have a great menu for vegans and vegetarians and there's a campers competition for the best dessert - bring your signature dish to share! So that you can discover new ideas about your riding and horses, we arrange talks in the evenings. Sometimes there is a quiz or some puzzles to solve. But there is always lots of horsey talk and fun…and potentially a hangover or two! We take photos, put them on Facebook and let you do what you want with them – most people share them with their friends to show what they’ve achieved. Sometimes we may have a professional photographer there too, from whom you can purchase pics from too. We're taking equestrian camps to new heights and you to new levels, they book up fast so don't miss out!
